Fecal exams can reveal parasites, in adult form or even in the beginning egg stages. Intestinal parasites can lead to gastrointestinal upset and even result in impaction.
What is fecal parasite screen?
We send fecal samples to an external lab to be tested. Depending on symptoms, the veterinarian may want to run a specific test.
What does a fecal parasite screen reveal?
The test can reveal if there are adult worms and/or young eggs.
How is a fecal parasite screen done?
A typical fecal examination consists of adding a special solution to the fecal sample so that the eggs float to the top and are then examined under a microscope to be identified.
How do I get a cat stool sample?
We ask that you collect a fresh sample so that the parasites are easier to identify. If your cat will use the bathroom in an empty litter box, that is preferred so that there is not litter in the sample.
How much does a cat stool test cost?
Our veterinarians can go over costs before running any tests.
